The space truss generally refers to a grid structure composed of components connected on both sides. The space truss structure is also called steel space truss structure, space truss and space structure, which refers to a truss structure with round or rectangular space components. The biggest difference from the general space truss is the interface method of the node. The space truss structure uses components to directly weld the cross node (or space node).
At the intersection node, only two main members in the same center line cross, and the other components (i.e. risers) are directly welded to the surface of the surrounding components (i.e. main members) after the top intersection line treatment. Non-permeable components may have gaps (gap type connection) or partial overlap (steel lap type connection) at the connection position.
Compared with the spherical grid, the space truss has fewer components, the nodes are beautiful and generous, and there are no large spherical nodes. Using the large-span structure indoor space truss structure, various lightweight large-span structures can be built. In most cases, the components in the space truss structure only bear radial tensile or compressive forces, and the stress is uniformly distributed on the cross section, which is easy to play the role of materials. This feature makes the space truss structure require less material and its own weight is relatively small.
It is easy to produce irregular shapes to meet different uses, such as simply supported trusses, arches, frames and towers. Therefore, the space truss structure is widely used in many large-span structure venues today, such as exhibition centers, stadiums and other large public buildings.
