A closed coal storage yard is a building facility used to store coal. Its main purpose is to reduce environmental pollution and resource waste caused by open-air coal storage.
(1) Architectural form
From the outside, closed coal storage yards have a variety of architectural forms. Common ones include arched grid structures and portal frame structures. The top of the coal storage yard with an arched grid structure is arched. By taking advantage of the spatial grid, it can achieve a larger span. This structural form can provide an open internal space, which is conducive to the operation of large machinery and equipment. At the same time, it can effectively resist external loads such as wind and snow loads. The coal storage yard with a portal frame structure is composed of a series of frames connected by a support system. It is characterized by a simple structure and relatively convenient construction. It is suitable for coal storage yards with small and medium spans.
(2) Enclosure structure
The enclosure structure of a closed coal storage yard is mainly to prevent coal dust from spreading to the external environment. Generally, metal plates, fabric membranes and other materials are used. Metal plates, such as color steel plates, have good strength and durability, can withstand certain external impacts, and can be customized to meet different size and shape requirements. Fabric membrane materials have the characteristics of light weight and good light transmittance, and are more suitable for use in some coal storage yards that require natural lighting. At the same time, fabric membrane materials can also be treated with special coatings to enhance their waterproof and dustproof properties.
(1) Coal stacking area
In the closed coal storage yard, there is a specially designated coal stacking area. The ground in this area is usually specially treated, such as paving concrete and setting up a drainage system. The concrete floor can withstand the weight of the coal, prevent the ground from sinking, and facilitate the cleaning of spilled coal. The drainage system is to remove rainwater or moisture in the coal to prevent the high moisture content of the coal from affecting its quality and subsequent use.
(2) Loading and unloading equipment
In order to realize the loading and unloading of coal, the closed coal storage yard is equipped with various loading and unloading equipment. Common ones include stackers, which can pile up coal or take coal out of the coal pile. Depending on different operating requirements, they can be cantilever stackers or gantry stackers. There are also belt conveyors, which are used to transport coal from one area to another, such as from the loading and unloading port to the stacking area or from the stacking area to the transport vehicle. These loading and unloading equipment are usually coordinated with the building structure and layout of the coal storage yard to improve operating efficiency.

One of the biggest advantages of closed coal storage yards is environmental protection. The closed space effectively reduces the flying of coal dust and reduces the pollution to the surrounding atmospheric environment. At the same time, the coal-containing wastewater generated by rainwater washing coal can also be collected and treated in the coal storage yard through the drainage and sewage treatment system set up to avoid the direct discharge of wastewater containing coal dust and harmful substances into the external environment.
(2) Resource protection function
It can prevent the loss of coal caused by natural factors such as wind, sun, and rain, such as wind damage and spontaneous combustion of coal. Moreover, the closed environment helps to maintain the stable quality of coal, making its moisture content, particle size and other indicators less likely to change, which is conducive to the long-term storage and rational use of coal.
